Nuvoton 2026 New Product Launch: Physical AI Sets the MCU Decade, Robots and Chip Security Take Center Stage
Nuvoton's September 9 launch in Taipei framed Physical AI as the MCU opportunity for the next decade, with MCU designs spanning robot brains, cerebellums, and dexterous hands, more than 30 MCU/MPU/audio/power demos, and a compliance playbook for the EU Cyber Resilience Act, whose reporting duties took effect on September 11, 2026.
On September 9, 2026, Nuvoton Technology held its annual new product launch, "Smart. Secure. Everywhere.", at the Grand Hotel in Taipei. Organized around three themes — Edge AI, chip security, and the smart IoT — the event featured more than 30 live demonstrations spanning MCUs, MPUs, audio ICs, power management, and security solutions. In his keynote, General Manager Hsin-Lung Yang framed the decade ahead in a single line: Physical AI is where MCUs will grow for the next ten years. As compute power moves from the cloud down to edge devices, he argued, customers no longer need AI throughput alone — they need AI tightly integrated with real-time control, sensing, connectivity, and power management.

Physical AI Meets Robotics: Brain, Cerebellum, and Dexterous Hands
According to DIGITIMES, Nuvoton demonstrated microcontroller (MCU) designs applied to a robot's brain, cerebellum, and dexterous hands. For joints and sensing — the most demanding part of a robot — the company laid out a full NuMicro lineup:
- M3334: finger-joint control in dexterous hands and high-speed magnetic encoders
- M5531: Arm Cortex-M55 with Helium vector processing, supporting joint drive control units (DCU) and sensor fusion
- M55M1: on-device real-time AI inference through the Ethos-U55 NPU
On the demo floor, Nuvoton ran an AI voice appliance and a motion-sensing game on M55M1 hardware, alongside a 1,650W high-power digital power supply, industrial battery monitoring, and high-precision measurement designs. Yang contrasted Nuvoton with competitors focused on a single AI feature: thanks to its deep MCU and MPU foundation, Nuvoton delivers AI, control, security, and power management together — which for robot builders means fewer component types and a shorter integration path.
Chip Security and the EU CRA: Reporting Duties Already Live
The second theme was regulatory. The EU Cyber Resilience Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/2847) entered into force on December 10, 2024; its main obligations apply from December 11, 2027, while vulnerability and incident reporting obligations took effect on September 11, 2026 — just two days after the event. The European Commission published practical guidance for manufacturers and developers on July 27, 2026.
Nuvoton outlined a three-layer approach to help customers reach CRA compliance:
- Hardware security: secure boot and TrustZone to establish a device root of trust
- Software transparency: SBOM (software bill of materials) and other traceable artifacts
- Full-lifecycle security management: a dedicated PSIRT team covering long-term product maintenance

- NuMicro M33 Gaming series (M3333 / M3334 / M3351): 8kHz ultra-low latency, hardware ARGB lighting decode (LLSI / ELLSI), and TFT GUI liquid-cooling displays for gaming and PC peripherals
- Audio: Waves MaxxAudio and Virtual Bass technologies, plus smart amplifiers with integrated KCS speaker protection
- Development ecosystem: the NuDeveloper platform adds AI-assisted NuCodeGen and NuTRM, with NuML Studio and NuVoiceAI for AI MCUs and a free edition of Keil MDK — from code assistance to edge deployment
Market Context: Humanoid Robot Shipments Are Scaling Fast
The "next ten years" framing tracks what end markets are already doing. Counterpoint Research reports that global humanoid robot shipments surpassed 22,000 units in the first half of 2026, up nearly 300% year on year, with full-year shipments expected to exceed 50,000 units (about 210% growth). Entertainment and data production/research still account for over 60% of volume, but smart manufacturing has climbed to 13% and warehousing and logistics to 5% — robots are moving from showrooms to production lines, and joints, sensor fusion, and dexterous hands are where MCU content is densest.
